Futurist Keynote Speaker: Posts, Slides, Videos -
Manufacturing, Logistics, Supply Chain Keynotes
Patrick Dixon is a global keynote speaker on AI in manufacturing, author of 18 books
MANY OF MY CLIENTS are the world’s largest manufacturers, and I am often asked what next-generation digital will mean for their automation, factory design, maintenance and supply chain management, and how that will integrate with what is known as Industry 4.0.
This is all about tracking components (the Internet of Things), smart sensors, robotic automation, Big Data, cloud computing, predictive analytics, and now of course AI.
Manufacturers are already spending $6bn a year on AI, increasing 24% annually. And by 2030, it is likely that they will realise cost savings of $2bn or more every year as a direct result.
Over half of the UK’s larger manufacturers are investing in AI, machine learning and augmented reality, and 40% say that they will soon adopt generative AI. Three quarters have already invested in automation or are about to, and one quarter plan to automate up to 25% of all processes over the next twenty-four months.
AI is improving their manufacturing processes, product design and development, productivity and quality. Yet many are held back by a lack of technical skills and integration, as well as data challenges, cost and workplace culture.
In the US, 70% of manufacturing CEOs say that they have seen immediate returns on AI investments they have already made, with benefits such as:
◆ Better data on production
◆ More accurate scrap rates
◆ Smarter and more reliable supply chains
◆ Live output data from supplier factories
◆ Simplified procurement
◆ Increased quality control at every stage
◆ Improved health and safety performance
◆ Optimisation of industrial processes
◆ Improved machine design
◆ Better data integration across sites
◆ Faster diagnosis of bottlenecks
◆ Earlier prediction of likely machine failures
◆ Faster introduction of automation
◆ More accurate delivery dates for customers
◆ More accurate demand forecasting – improved by 13% or more
◆ Faster approval of planning applications for new sites
◆ Improved regulatory compliance
◆ Stronger risk analysis and management
◆ Better HR processes – hiring, performance reviews, personalised development
◆ Clearer and more accurate board reporting
Daily Telegraph review (14 September 2024 UK):
"If you need to acquire instant AI mastery in time for your next board meeting, Dixon’s your man.
Dixon gives us plenty to think about: AI’s role in surveillance; AI’s role in intellectual freedom and copyright; AI’s role in warfare; AI’s role in human obsolescence – his exhaustive list runs to over two dozen chapters.
Business types will enjoy Dixon's meticulous lists and his willingness to argue both sides against the middle."
