FOR TWO DECADES we heard apocalyptic warnings about ‘The End of Work’. The theme is always the same. A new industrial revolution will bring large-scale automation. As a result, most unskilled jobs won’t be needed, and most middle management will disappear, creating massive job losses.

AI in business is mainly about saving time and cost, which means fewer people at work. Half of all US business leaders using AI have already cut jobs as a result. And 100% of such businesses will replace many humans with AI by 2030. 

But the question is what proportion of jobs will actually be lost in the longer term, when we take into account job creation?
