Manufacturing, Logistics, Supply Chain Keynotes
Future patterns of supply chains and trade.
90% of all products / goods are carried by sea - shipping containers. This supply chain trend will continue for the next 50 years and beyond.
Shipping will always be lower cost over medium to long distance than trucking or rail freight, for manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers.
That's because of the laws of physics - large container ships are highly energy efficient per kilometre per ton of freight, compared to rail freight or road freight / trucking.
It's the reason why cities with sea ports are usually larger and wealthier than cities without sea access.
Large cities with efficient container ports will always win a competitive advantage as hubs for manufacturing, distribution, logistics and supply chains.
